COVENTRY CITY U18 5-1 NOTTINGHAM FOREST U18 BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City U18's put in a superb performance to beat Nottingham Forest U18's 5-1 in a friendly this morning.

On a lovely sunny morning at the Alan Higgs Centre, the Sky Blues were ahead after six and a half minutes when Billy Daniels, who scored twice against Milton Keynes last Saturday, fired home a penalty after fellow front runner Courtney Richards had been impeded by the Forest centre half.

With Will Roberts providing some excellent crosses and an industrious performance from Luke Bottomer, it was only a matter of time before Greg Rioch's team added a second and this came in the 24th minute when Roberts cross from the right was hit high into the net by Josh Ruffles at the far post.

Ruffles added his second four minutes later, when a Bottomer shot was blocked and the left winger made no mistake from eight yards to put City three goals up.

The lead was slightly reduced in the 31st minute when Forest were awarded a penalty which their number ten who had been tripped, got up to convert the resulting spot kick.

The Forest coach fumed as his side has no answer to City's attacking prowess and control of the midfield and he watched on as a 47th minute Courtney Richards back header had to be scrambled off the line.

Richards, who joined City from Non-League Romulus, was involved a minute later to set up a fourth goal for City when his long ball picked out Luke Bottomer who beat the advancing keeper from ten yards.

In the 51st minute, substitute Arron Phillips produced the goal of the game when he was allowed space to blast a thirty yard shot high into the roof of the net.

There was no taking their foot off the pedal for the Sky Blues who continued to look to add to their tally.

Richards poked wide from a Bottomer cross before Forest in a rare sortee on goal, hit the far post in the 63rd minute.

Substitute Johnson Harris had a 77th minute shot from fourteen yards tipped over for a corner which brought about a Bottomer shot being cleared off the line and then Harris being brought down in the penalty area but this time no penalty was given and City had to be content with their five goal haul.

Next Saturday, City U18's travel to Tottenham.
