Coventry City U18's put in a workmanlike performance to beat West Ham U18's in an Inter-League match this morning.

Both sides fielded young starting line ups but there was no shortage of energy and passion in the opening forty-five minutes at the Alan Higgs Centre.

In the tenth minute, City keeper Michael Quirke made a brave atop to deny Oliver Lee, son of the former Newcastle and West Ham star.

Greg Rioch's side went up the other end and Nathan Cameron was on;y stopped from scoring with a header from a corner by Adam Street superbly pushing over.

West Ham started to have more of the pressure and made it tell in the 24th minute when Sergio Sanchez rose to head The Hammers in front from eight yards.

Connor Thomas was a delight in a strong midfield for City, who were level after 38 minutes thanks to Callum Wilson creating space inside the area from a Greenway cross to blast home from six yards.

Just after the restart, City went into the lead when a hand went up inside the area and the assistant indicated to the referee of an offence, which led to a penalty.

Sulliman Lellu took the spot kick and gave Street no chance from twelve yards.

A third nearly came seconds later when Callum Wilson volleyed over when clean through.

Lellu had a goal ruled in the 52nd minute as the Sky Blues had the visitors clearly rattled.

Rioch's side maintained their pressure and another cracking save from Street in the 67th minute denied Lellu with the loose ball being thumped onto the crossbar by Shaun Jeffers.

With eleven minutes left, Tony Carr's side suffered the loss of a defender with what looked like a serious leg injury and had to play the remainder of what had been an entertaining game with ten men.
