Coventry City Youth went out of the FA Youth Cup in an extra time defeat to Stoke City.

Against Adrian Pennock's side who play in Group C of the Academy League, City had all the early play winning four corners, two of which were put wide by centre half Nathan Cameron.

In the 13th minute, Stoke's Adam Vickers was allowed by the referee to get away with a foul round Michael Quirke to take the ball to the byline and centre. Cameron threw himself in the way and the danger was cleared.

The game was pretty stop start with both trainers on a fair bit.

In the 36th minute, City took a deserved lead when Harrison spilled an Ashley Cain cross and Robert Ogleby was on hand to drive low into the Jewson Stand net.

Greg Rioch, who had been in the 1991 FA Youth Cup Final with Millwall, urged his side forward. Sean Fraser and Adam Walker worked hard in the centre of midfield whilst the pace of Cain caused numerous problems.

Stoke had forced Quirke into one save whilst Jacob Blackwell fired over after a 61st minute run.

As Chris Coleman and Ray Ranson watched from the back of the Main Stand, Stoke briefly threatened.

A smart save saw Quirke deny Nicholls in he 64th minute before some brave defending cleared a corner three minutes later.

With fifteen minutes left, Stoke equalised through Warwick Alexander. Unwin's cross fom the right was not cleared and the Stoke forward was able to bundle in from close range.

There was no further action and this took the game into extra time.

Joel Grandison became the frst substitute used when he replaced Ashley Cain who had taken a knock.

The Birmingham born youngster was involved as Coventry went back in front one minute into stoppage time at the end of the first period.

Grandison played Ogleby on the right.A cross right into the mixer and there was Shaun Jeffers to stab in.

Jacob Blackwell had a stunning drive pushed over but in the 111th minute, Tom Urwin made the most of some tired legs and fired through a crowded penalty area.

Then in the final seconds, Stoke snatched a win. A throw in from the Tescos Stand side was not dealt with and Louis Moult was able to rifle home from close range, to knock City out at the third rund stage for the second consecutive season.
