Those coming from the Birmingham area to the Ricoh Arena for Coventry City's League One game against Port Vale or Nuneaton Town supporters travelling to Solihull are warned of the following closure of part of the A45.
Westbound A45 to be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day
All three lanes on the westbound A45 in Bickenhill, between the M42 Junction 6 and the Birmingham Airport (Clock) roundabout, will be closed for works from 10pm on Thursday 24th December until 5am on Sunday 27th December.
One lane on the eastbound A45 will also be closed. A diversion route will be in place which will be signposted throughout the area.
This is to allow the demolition of the A45 South Bridge as part of a major project to improve the local transport infrastructure.
The closure has the potential to affect drivers accessing Birmingham Airport, the NEC, Resorts World, as well as visitors to Birmingham City Centre from Coventry and Warwickshire.
This is a busy time of year, but is the only opportunity where there are limited services on the West Coast Mainline for the railway to be closed in order to undertake the work.
Solihull Council has completed construction of the first half of the new A45 South Bridge and westbound A45 traffic has been temporarily diverted on to this new section.
The next phase of the project in the New Year will see the construction of the second half of the bridge.
Upon completion in August 2016 the new bridge will accommodate four lanes of traffic (as well as an access road into an adjacent property) thereby contributing to reducing congestion in one of the busiest areas of the West Midlands.
