The Robins made it into the top flight in 1976 and will be remembered by Coventry City supporters for a 2-2 draw at Highfield Road which saw both sides stop up at the expense of Sunderland. They were relegated in 1980 and have not been in the top flight since.

Twice League Cup runners-up and FA Cup runners up in 1909, City have won the LDV Vans Trophy, The Freight Rover Trophy and the Welsh Cup.

DOWIE ON BRISTOL CITY
Iain Dowie said to the club website: "The Bristol City board have backed Gary (Johnson), and rightly so, because he's an excellent manager and has paid them back by getting promotion. I thought Danny Wilson did a terrific job there for a few years - he couldn't quite get them back up but Gary's come in and achieved that.

"They've brought in Lee Trundle for £1m and signed Marvin Elliott from Millwall and McIndoe from Wolves so they have a strong squad. "They are a good footballing team and any side under Gary will always be very well organised, so we will have prove our mettle."

CAREY ON COVENTRY
Louis Carey who was signed by Peter Reid for City but only lasted a few months before he made his excuses and made a swift return to Ashton Gate, told Bristol City's website: "In truth I have not thought about playing against Coventry too much and I will not let it effect me because I don't think I was there long enough to have a real connection with the club or anything, "We had a good result there last season in the FA Cup and we would obviously take a repeat of that.

"Behind the scenes at Coventry there are still plenty of staff members I know but on the field there is only two or three players still around from my time there. "I am just looking forward to the game with the aim of taking three points - the same aim we have in any match."
