City U18's were beaten 3-0 at Wolves in a friendly.

Coventry Sphinx were beaten 7-3 at Rothwell Town with Craig Martin scoring twice and one for Mark Owen. Sphinx Reserves beat Warwick Town 6-2 with goals from Cole (2),Elliott,Knight,Maddox and James.

Also locally, Rugby Town beat Nuneaton Borough 2-1 in a friendly at Butlin Road. Former City Academy player Aaron Stringfellow resigned for Rugby before the game and played in a side which went ahead through Kolodynski in the 44th minute firing past former Sky Blue Cameron Belford. Collins equalised five minutes from time but a minute later,David Staff converted a penalty to give VS a win.

Former Sky Blue Tom Bates played for 75 minutes in Leamington's 2-1 extra time win against Romulus in the John McGorian Cup which is the traditional curtain-raiser to the Midland Alliance season. Avun Jephcott was a 62nd minute substitute for the Brakes but Ben Mackey did not feature.

Atherstone Town beat Witherley 2-1 at Sheepy Road with goals from Mark Williams and Andy Hill.

Wilo Flood got off to a bad start at Dundee United when he was sent off in thethe first half of a 1-0 win at home to Aberdeen. Jonny Tuffey was in goal for Partick Thistle against Stirling Albion as the Scottish League Season got under way.

Richard Shaw played the whole game for Millwall in a 2-1 win over Sierra Leone. Andy Whing played for Brighton in a 4-0 win at Chester whop had Gavin Ward in goal.

Trevor Benjamin made his first appearance for Hereford United in a 2-0 win against Cheltenham. Craig Reid was a 79th minute sub for the Robins.

RUGBY LEAGUE

The Coventry Bears Rugby League side completed their league programme having won every game as they beat Gloucester 30-16 at Old Coventrians Rugby Club in Tile Hill.
