Warwickshire Beat Worcestershire

Warwickshire County Cricket Club beat Worcestershire by seven wickets in a Twenty/20 fixture at Edgbaston this evening.

Warwickshire welcomed back Tim Ambrose and had Ian Bell in the team but lost the toss and Worcestershire opted to bat first in front of a good crowd at Egbaston.

The visitors started well but Vic Solanki was out for eight caught behind by Ambrose off the bowling of Keith Barker with the score on 36.

Stephen Moore was the next batsman in but he was caught by Ambrose for two and then Moeen Ali also fell victim as did Ben Smith to the gloves of Ambrose as Worcestershire slumped to 70-4 at the halfway stage.

Stephen Davies was the main stay for Worcestershire and he past the fifty mark from 37 balls to steer his side to 100-4 with six overs to go as Warwicks had a number of LBW appeals turned down.

Keith Barker got his fourth wicket to remove Davies for 73 then Noffke was caught by Jim Troughton who then leapt to catch a ball from Mitchell who was out for 35 off 31 balls.

Batty was caught at extra cover by Ian Bell off the bowling of Jeetan Patel as Worcestershire closed on 148-8.

Jon Trott and Neil Carter started well but in the fourth over, Carter was out for twenty from ten balls after hitting two sixes and two fours.

Trott and Troughton pushed the score on to leave Warwicks needing a run a ball to win with thirteen overs remaining.

The 100 came up in the 11th over off 64 balls and then Jim Troughton made his fifty. He had made a partnership of 97 with Trott but was bowled by Noffke for 58.

Ian Bell came in but made only five when he was caught by a short ball off the bowling of Noffke. Jon Trott past the fity mark but it was Tim Ambrose who hit a four with ten balls to spare to give Warwicks a seven wicket win and their first Twenty/20 win this season.

Tomorrow, Warwicks travel to Cardiff to play Glamorgan at the Swalec Stadium. Play is due to start at 5.30pm and you can hear the game on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's website.
