Warwickshire suffered their first Twenty20 defeat of the season when they lost tonight at Northamptonshire.

At Wantage Road, Northamptonshire put the unbeaten Warwicks into bat.
Only eighteen overs were possible. Tim Ambrose top scored with 24, Tim Gronevald hit 22 and Alex Loudon 19 in a total of 100-7.

Warwickshire have relied on their bowling to get to the Quarter-Final stages and Neil Carter,Jimmy Anyon, Heath Streak and Tim Gronevald all had wickets before Northants reached fifty runs in the ninth over.

Ricky Wessels, the son of South African legend Kepler, was leading by example and smacked one six off Paul Harris as the home side kept the score ticking over with twenty two in two consecutive overs.

Alex Loudon was one of those who had conceded eleven runs and he was replaced by Gronevald who bowled the twelfth over as Wessels pushed the score up to 80-4.

It was difficult for the batsman in the dark and the rain but Chris Rogers took the pressure off with a four off Gronevald to leave twelve to win in four overs.

Rogers was finally removed by a Paul Harris catch off Neil Carter for twenty three and Wessels went for thirty caught by Darren Maddy. But requiring three runs Stephen Crook and Van Wath steered the home side through to a four wickets win.

Warwickshire's final Midlands/West and Wales group game is at home to Northamptonshire on Friday and need to win to secure a home Quarter-Final tie.
