Warwickshire are out of the Friends Provident Trophy after a controversial tie against Kent at Edgbaston.

Needing a win to make sure of qualifying for the Quarter-Finals, Warwicks won the toss and put Kent into bat.

Denly was the main man for Kent, making 115 from 128 balls which included nine fours and three sixes. He was supported by Hockley who made 50 and Mahmood who made 25 as Kent fell to 265 all out.

Piolet and Patel took the wickets and things looked good for the Bears when they came into bat.

Neil Carter was out for a quick fire 37 from 33 balls and with the score on 97, Jon Trott was out for 36.

Jim Troughton and Tony Frost pushed the score on before the latter went for 28. Troughton was out for 67 and a ball later, Ian Westwood was out to leave the score at 184-5.

Ant Botha soon followed but Warwicks were not scoring at a quick enough rate until eight overs to go when Tim Ambrose hit successive sixes.

With six overs to go, Warwicks had got to six behind on Duckworth/Lewis and needing 48 to win.

Ambrose, who had a runner due to a hamstring injury, took the power play. A four,a single and a no ball helped Warwicks back into contention before Ambrose and Keith Barker took their partnership past fifty as the rain came down.

With three overs and a ball left, the umpires Cowley and Evans took the players off with Warwicks requiring 25 from 19 balls. Two runs from the last ball of the over would have Warwicks ahead but a check with the scorers showed that the scores under Duckworth/Lewis were tied.

Much deliberation between Warwicks boss Ashley Giles and the umpires went on as time ticked away, now in glorious sunshine. Giles' protests were in vein as the umpires shook hands and Warwickshire were out of the Friends Provident Trophy.

On Monday, Warwicks start their Twenty/20 campaign when they travel to Northampton. Play is due to start at 2.30pm.
