Warwickshire County Cricket Club lost their first Twenty/20 game of the season with a seventeen run defeat at Northamptonshire.

Northants won the toss and decided to bat first. They reached 47 before White who made forty of those runs was caught by Chris Woakes from the bowling of Keith Barker.

Barker took his second wicket five runs later but 45 from thirty balls from Boje and an equally quickfire 42 from O'Brien took the score along.

Jeetan Patel took two wickets as Northants ended their twenty overs on 176-6.

Warwicks started off quickly but in the third over, Jon Trott was out for 16 with 24 runs on the board for Warwicks.

Northamptonshire had bowled five wides and two no balls by the fifth over and this along with good work from Neil Carter and Jim Troughton was pushing the run rate to around ten an over.

However, that dropped off. Neil Carter made 25 and although Jim Troughton went onto make 53 from 39 balls with seven fours, Warwicks were lagging behind the required run rate.

Having lost Ian Westwood for four, Tony Frost was out for eight, followed by Barker for nine, Warwicks needed 24 from the final over. A single and the wickets of Piolet and Johnson in successive balls ended the contest as Warwicks finished on 159-8 and lost the match by seventeen runs.
