Coventry Blaze stay top of the Elite League table with a 4-2 home win against Newcastle Vipers.

At the Sky Dome tonight, it was the Vipers fans who enjoyed the first period which saw them take a two goal lead thanks to David Longstaff opening the scoring on 6.15 and Matus Petricko adding a second on 14.58.

With Nottingham Panthers 6-3 victory at Hull, temporarily knocking Coventry off the top of the Elite League table, the Blaze hit back.

Luke Fulghum scored a powerplay goal, assisted by Jon Weaver on 34.16 and thirty eight seconds later, Weaver was again the provider setting up Greg Chambers.

On 51.39, Derek Campbell fired the Blaze ahead, assisted by Greg Owen Russ Cowley and with six seconds of the match remaining, Danny Stewart had the simple task of scoring into an empty for the fourth after Newcastle had taken off their net minder.

On Tuesday night, the Blaze travel to Edinburgh and are away to Hull on Saturday before taking on the Stingrays at the Sky Dome on Sunday.
