Coventry Rugby Club are asking supporters, well-wishers and those who want a major Rugby Union club in Coventry to turn up and back the club at their next two home games.

Coventry take on Cornish Pirates on Friday night at Butts Park Arena (7.45pm) and the club are hoping for a massive gate which will help their finances which are in a critical situation following the club's slip into administration.

Staff and players have not been paid for three weeks, following the departure of former owner Andrew Green and Coventry Rugby Club's Operations Director Michael Doyle told the CT: "Our next two home games, on Friday and against Doncaster on January 2, are vital to the future of the club," said operations director Michael Doyle. "We know it is a busy time of year for everyone but we are urging as many of the supporters, well-wishers and people of the city who want to see the club continue to get along if they can and help us get through.

"I know there are a lot of people who feel the club has been poorly run and managed in the past but all the people here now have just one aim and that is to see Cov continue and to go forward living within its means and to make sure all our financial resources are directed the right way.

"I joined the club in June and before coming I did my research. "It didn't take me long to realise that Cov is a club with a special place in the world of rugby and a history and heritage second to none. That hasn't gone

"The strength of the club comes from its fan base and over recent years that has diminished, so we have to find a way to get people back and return to the attendance figures of 4,000 or 4,500 there were before.

"That is the challenge for us, but to all those out there I can only say that there has never been a time like now when your support has been needed

"We have got a potential fresh start, so please put your confidence in the people who are doing their level best and in the players who have shown such loyalty and commitment. We need you to come and join us on the journey."

Coventry go into Friday's game with a weakened side after it was announced that Bristol bound Jamie Miller, Scott Roberts, Kevin Davis and Joe Merrigan have all left the club.
