Support City Ladies In Next Two Matches

COVENTRY City Ladies first team coach Paul Cudby has issued a rallying call to the people of Coventry for their support as his side's push for promotion to the top flight of women's football begins to take shape.

The Sky Blues entertain local rivals Leicester City on Thursday evening, 7.45pm kick off and league leaders Manchester City on Sunday 2pm kick off, both at Coventry Sphinx, knowing two victories would boost their chances of promotion from the Premier League North Division.

Cudby's side will secure a place in the National Premier Division should they win their remaining four fixtures and although he is feeling surprisingly relaxed about the current situation, Cudby is hoping the city of Coventry will come out in numbers to support the ladies.

I'm very relaxed about it,” said Cudby. “We're taking on the two favourites (at the start of the season) for promotion so the pressure is all on Leicester and Manchester City as far as I can see.

If we were down the bottom end of the table and needed four wins to stay up, then that would be different, and then there really would be pressure on us

These games are the kind of games that we were dreaming about 12 months ago when we got promotion, so it's an occasion to savour for us.

It'd be great to get as much local support as possible cheering us on at the Sphinx this Thursday (April 14). The players always respond to a crowd well, it can make such a difference and hopefully we can give them something to cheer about.”

Following Sunday's dramatic 3-2 victory over Rochdale, Coventry currently find themselves sitting third in the league on 29 points and Cudby admits the next two matches will be a difficult challenge for his side.

Manchester City are a fantastic team and have to be one of the favourites to win promotion and Leicester are in the same position as us where if they were to win all of their remaining games they would go up as well, so it couldn't be any tighter.

If someone had offered us 29 points at this stage of the season before we kicked a ball, we would have snapped their hands off!

We're all looking forward to the challenge, I know exactly what we're capable of when we're at our best and I've got every faith that we'll give it all we've got.”

Tickets for both matches are priced at £3 (max) for adults and £1 for concessions.
