Warwickshire County Cricket Club won at Worcestershire tonight in a Midland/Wales/West Division Twenty/20 game with an impressive seven wickets victory thanks to a super innings from Jon Trott.

Warwickshire dropped Boyd Rankine and were without Ian Bell and put Worcestershire into bat at New Road.

There was early success when Vic Solanki was caught by Stefan Piolet off the bowling of Rikki Clarke but three consecutive double figure overs lifted Worcestershire in front of a good crowd.

With the score on 42, Stephen Moore was bowled by Neil Carter and six runs later, dangerman Stephen Davies was caught by Jeetan Petal at third man for 22.

At the halfway stage in their innings, Worcestershire were 77-3.

Former Warwickshire player Moeen Ali and Ben Smith past the fifty partnership mark. The latter went for a biggie but smacked it to Tony Frost from a poor Stefan Piolet ball to leave Worcester on 111-4 with six overs to go.

Ali went on make 46 before he lost his wicket and off the last ball of the innings Noffke was run out.

Warwicks were set a target of 163 runs to win. After four overs, Warwicks had made forty four without loss thanks to a succession of boundaries from Jon Trott, the tenth highest Twenty/20 scorer in the world and Neil Carter.

More boundaries followed to take Warwicks' run rate to 9.47, well ahead of the 7.46 required and after ten overs, only 71 runs were required to win with ten wickets in hand.

The partnership was eventually ended on 105 when Neil Carter was caught for 45. Moeen Ali was the bowler and his next ball saw Jim Troughton caught by Gareth Batty for a golden duck.

Thirty four runs were added before Tim Ambrose was caught by Kabir Ali for 13. Rikki Clarke came in and smacked one six as Warwicks got the score to a run a ball.

Trott was making the fifth highest score by a Warwickshire batsman in Twenty/20. He passed his highest previous Twenty/20 score of 75 with a four off Ashley Noffke.

The game went into the final over and saw three runs required to win with Trott on strike. He smashed Andrew's first ball high into the stand for six to finish 85 not out and give Warwicks a seven wicket win.

Warwickshire take on Somerset at Edgbaston in their final game on Sunday in a match they need to win. Play is due to start at 2.30pm.
