Coventry Sphinx put in a superb display to beat Racing Club Warwick.

Sphinx before kick off

Bobby Hancocks side were first to show in the first half of this Midland Alliance local derby. As early as the third minute,Tom Lever had forced Ashley Hooker to save with his legs before striking the far post when put through.

The first goal came in the tenth minute and was due to the persistence of Jerome Murdock who centred for young Callum Woodwood to fire into the net from sixteen yards.

Rhodes missed with a header before some superb control from Woodward who volleyed just wide.

Sphinx who were beaten at Shifnal on Saturday were pegged back on the half hour mark when Neil Stacey fed the unmarked Tom Lever who drove home.

In what was an enthralling contest for a good sized crowd, Paul Charnley's side went back in front on the stroke of half-time when Dave Drennan kept his cool and rounded the keeper to fire into an empty net.

Sphinx started the second half on the attack with Murdock and Woodward having efforts whilst Ian Brookes made two good saves to deny Woodward and Ward.

Brookes who had a fine game against his former club, made another three good saves, before being beaten in the 69th minute by a Harris lob but Phil Daly was back to clear on the line

With fifteen minutes left, two substitutes combined to give Sphinx the third goal they deserved. This time, Robbie Scott crossed for the unmarked Craig Martin to head home from close range.

Ten minutes later, it was four when Dave Drennan was picked out to flick past the keeper to complete a fine win for Sphinx who now travel to Stapenhill on Ssturday.
