Super Sphinx Start Off With A Win

Coventry Sphinx's first game in the Midland Alliance saw Paul Charnley's side leave Market Drayton Town with a 2-1 victory.

Olly Kesterton put the home side ahead in the 50th minute but this was cancelled out by Craig Martin's equaliser on the hour mark.

With nine minutes left,Substitute Chris Harris scored the winner for Sphinx who face Stratford Town at Solihull on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere in the Midland Alliance, Atherstone Town drew 2-2 with Causeway United with former Sphinx midfielder Craig Civzelis scoring twice.

Jerome Grandison who is on loan to Stratford Town from City's Academy scored twice for Stratford Town in a 2-2 draw at Barwell.

Racing Club Warwick lost 3-2 at home to Biddulph Victoria. Martin Thompson and a Michael Glynn penalty were the Warwick scorers.

Midland Combination results saw a 2-1 win for Massey Ferguson at Feckenham,Southam won 3-0 at Loughborough University whilst Coventry Copsewood drew 0-0 at Meir KA.

Alveston now back in Division One lost 5-1 at home to Oldbury and Stockingford lost 2-0 at Littleton.

There was a crowd of 1270 to see Nuneaton Borough open their new Liberty Way home with a Conference North game against Harrogate Town. Jamie Towers scored for Boro but it was not enough as Kevin Wilkins side went down to a 2-1 defeat.

Bedworth Utd beat Oxford City 2-0 in their final pre-season friendly and right-back Chris Duggan who was released by City Academy at the end of last season playing as a second half substitute for Martin Sockett's side.

Rugby Town drew 0-0 in their final friendly against Thatcham Town.
