Coventry Sphinx went nap tonight against Oadby Town in a Midland Alliance fixture.

On a wet night at Sphinx Drive, Paul Charnley's side did not let the weather affect their performance and although, they had Scott McGregor limp off, they took the lead in the 25th minute.

The goal came from Robbie Stevenson and the set piece specialist did not disappoint the home support when his 25 yard free kick flew into the top corner.

Two minutes later, new signing Jack Cudworth added a second with a good finish from fifteen yards firing into the bottom corner.

In the 36th minute, referee Simon Lane spotted a shirt pull and awarded a spot kick which Robbie Stevenson duly dispatched into the net.

The Leicestershire based visitors pulled one back in the 56th minute when Hardeep Phull was left unmarked at the far post to knock home a cross from the left.

The rain was now coming down pretty but Sphinx stuck to their task and in the 63rd minute,Robbie Stevenson completed his hat-trick with a low drive.

Four minutes later, Jerome Murdock scored a fifth for Sphinx who travel to Heather St Johns in the FA Vase on Saturday, nipped through to fire past Laurie Pearson.

Hardeep Phull scored again seven minutes from time but Sphinx ran out very worthy winners.
