Super Sphinx Beat Biddulph

Coventry Sphinx won 3-1 at Biddulph Victoria this afternoon in a Midland Alliance game to cement their place in the top ten of the table.

Paul Charnley's side trailed to a second minute goal from Andy Aspinall. Callum Woodward equalised four minutes later and Dave Drennan netted just before the break to give Sphinx the lead.

Twenty minutes from time,Woodward hit a second to give Sphinx a 3-1 win from their first ever game at Biddulph.

Nuneaton Borough came from behind to draw 1-1 at Bromsgrove in the FA Cup but Bedworth were beaten 2-1 at Halesowen.

in the Southern Premier League, Rugby Town won 1-0 at Swindon Supermarine with a second half goal.

Stratford keep on course for promotion from the Midland Alliance with a 5-1 win at Friar Lane and Epworth. Former Sky Blue Rory May was on target.
Atherstone lost 2-1 at home to Rocester whilst Racing Club Warwick lost 1-0 at Stapenhill.

In the Midland Combination Premier Division,Nuneaton Griff won 1-0 at Feckenham, Massey Ferguson lost 4-0 at home to Heath Hayes and Southam lost 5-1 at home to Brocton.

Leamington Hibernian and Stockingford both lost but Kenilworth Town won and Coventry Sphinx Reserves drew 3-3.

In the Championship today, Coventry City's draw with Charlton sees them down to ninth place with Charlton remaining in second two points behind leaders Watford who drew 1-1 with City's next opponents Blackpool.

Scunthorpe are now sixth with a 1-0 win at Colchester. There were also wins for Hull, Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton with the rest of the matches ending in draws.

City's next opponents in the League Cup West Ham lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal. Man United won 1-0 at Birmingham whilst the game at Fratton Park between Portsmouth and Reading in a 7-4 victory for the South Coast side.

Paul Furlong was sent off for Luton in a 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield. Paul Hall scored the winner for Walsall at Hartlepool.
