Steelers Not Tough Enough To Stop The Blaze

Coventry Blaze inched closer to the Elite League title with a 5-1 victory against Sheffield Steelers tonight.

A packed Sky Dome saw Luke Fulghum, assisted by net minder Peter Hirsch take the lead on 8.08 with a shorthanded goal.

A second followed on 15.52 when Greg Owen scored a powerplay goal assisted by Greg Chambers and Jon Weaver.

The second period produced a goal for each side. The Blaze's third goal of the evening came on 30.26 when Derek Campbell fired in, thanks to assists from Luke Fulghum and Dan Carlson.

Sheffield scored three seconds from the end of the second period through Joe Talbot but four minutes and 30 seconds into the third, Tom Watkins had Coventry three goals ahead once more when he scored, assisted by Brian Lee and Greg Chambers.

With less than two minutes of the match remaining, Blaze wrapped up a good victory when Greg Owen scored on 58.06, assisted by Brad Cruickshank and Derek Campbell.

On Thursday night, Cardiff Devils visit the Sky Dome before the Blaze travel to Nottingham on Saturday and entertain Edinburgh Capitals on Sunday.
