Sherwyn Athletic FC Reunited

Last updated : 18 March 2010 By Brian Nicks
An incredible 150 plus ex players officials and supporters of Sherwyn
Athletic packed the superb new Douglas Suite at the Arches Snooker
centre.

The reunion was the brainchild of former goalkeeper Brian Nicks
ably assisted by Rod Ison & Dick Cosgrove.

Players from the 1956 team right up to the 2002side who had not met
for over 40 years in some cases, were delighted to meet old colleagues
again.

Some of the visitors to the event travelled far and wide to
attend, one as far as Switzerland (Kevin Barnett), the Stonnard btothers
plus mum & dad, came from Eastbourne, Kenny Chapman from Oxford, Andy Fox from Hereford, and others from all over the West Midlands.

Several old League Officials attended as guests, including Pete Ashby,
Gary Breakwell,Mick Taylor(also an ex player & treasurer for over 30
years) and referee Pete Cox-who for once didn't show any red cards.

Such was the size of the gathering, the three organisers didn't manage
to speak to everyone, for which we apologise.

Sherwyn were quite successful over the years winning the prestigous
T.G.John Cup twice,the H.Oliver Cup in 78-79,the Nickson Cup in 74-75
& 80-81 the Sky Blue Cup and various league honours.

Old team photographs and trophies from the past were displayed around
the impressive function room. The evening was a tremendous success, the
beer, the banter and aspecially the humour flowed in abundance. Albeit
goals from a simple tap in nature became wonder strikes as the
unforgetable evening progressed.
