Coventry born Cal Crutchlow finished seventh in the Hertz British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
The former Stoke Park pupil, had two crashes in practice, including one at 293km/h but qualified in third.
Crutchlow, watched by friend Mark Cavendish, dropped to seventh place, coming in 26 seconds back, in a race won by Jorge Lorenzo, who beat championship leader Marc Marquez by less than one tenth of a second. Dani Pedrosa took the third place on the podium.
Crutchlow who will ride for Ducatti next season is fifth in the Championship table.
