Rugby Through In Cup

Rugby Town are through to the second round of the Red Insure Cup after a 5-2 win over Banbury United.

Justin Marsden rounded the keeper after full back Scott Bridges slipped to put Rugby ahead in the 27th minute and eight minutes into the second half, in front of a crowd of 140 at Butlin Road, Piggon crossed for David Kolodynski to score a second.

Marsden made it three in the 62nd minute when he scored from ten yards and four minutes later, Piggon crossed for Lewis McBride to score a fourth.

McBride scored the goal of the game in the 80th minute with a stunning 25th yard curler and although Banbury scored twice through Dominic Lawless in the 85th and 86th minutes from long balls, Rugby were through.

In the Northern Premier League Division One South, Bedworth United lost 6-1 at Coalville Town. Danny Jenno put the Leicestershire based side two goals up after 22 minutes, adding to his first in the 12th minute, with Jack McGovern (28) and Jordan Hempenstall (38) making it 4-0 at half-time.

Andrew Carney sent Coalville napping straight after the restart and Hempenstall scored his second in the 57th minute to see the game well over as a contest. 

Ben Gowling scored a consolation for the Greenbacks in stoppage time.
