Rain has affected Warwickshire on the opening day of the County Championship season.

Warwicks batted first against Somerset at Taunton and lost Tony Frost for seven runs to a catch by wicket keeper Kieswetter off the bowling of Ben Phillips.

Coventry kid Ian Bell came in and played some good shots including ten fours. The England international took his score past fifty and was 64 not out when rain stopped play in the afternoon session with the score on 139-3.

The other two wickets to fall came when the score was on 66 and saw Darren Maddy bowled by Phillips for 17 and Jon Trott trapped LBW by Phillips for a duck.

Play finally resumed at 4.50pm with Stratford's Jim Toughton not out on thirty. He took that total to 58 before bad light stopped play in the 55th over. Ian Bell had moved on to 84 and Warwicks closed on 189-3.
