Nuneaton Beaten In Conference Opener

Nuneaton Town were beaten 5-4 by Ebbsfleet in their opening Conference Premier match of the season.

At Liberty Way, a crowd of 1088 saw Andy Brown fire Nuneaton ahead in the ninth minute with an assist for former City defender Stephen O'Halloran.

Former Coventry City midfielder Adam Walker hit a second from twenty yards in the 18th minute but the visitors struck back twice to level within five minutes through Tom Phipp and Elder who dived in to head past Ben McNamara.

Moses Ashikodi then put Ebbsfleet ahead in the 31st minute before Walker struck the bar four minutes later.

After the restart, Enver-Marum made it 4-2 to the visitors. Then Nuneaton were awarded a penalty when Robbie Thomson-Brown was fouled. He got up to take the kick but that was saved.

In the 57th minute, Robbie Thomson-Brown did find the net as Boro went looking for an equaliser.

However, it did not come and Phipp scored a fifth with a curler for a fifth for Ebbsfleet.

Robbie Thomson-Brown  scored a consolation fourth goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time for Nuneaton, but their league season started with a defeat.

Also in the Conference, Former Coventry City youngster Rob Ogleby scored for Wrexham in a 3-1 win over Woking.

In the FA Cup, Atherstone Town lost 5-4 at Pilkington,Stratford Town lost 5-2 at Tividale, Southam lost 4-1 at Dudley and Nuneaton Griff drew 3-3 at Earlswood.

In the Les James Challenge Cup, Kenilworth Town went down to an extra time 3-2 home defeat to Chelmsley Town.

Midland Combination Premier Division results saw Coventry Copsewood beaten 1-0 at Walsall Wood but Racing Club Warwick beat Castle Vale JKS 4-0.

Midland Combination Division Two scores saw Coventry Spartans lose 3-1 at Alcester Town, Coventry Spires draw 1-1 at home with Polesworth, FC Stratford beaten 2-1 at home by Burntwood and Leamington Hibernian beaten 3-1 at home by Barnt Green Spartak.
