Coventry Blaze won't be going to Nottingham for the Play-Offs Finals after they lost on penalties to Belfast Giants tonight.

Despite a cracking 2-2 draw at Belfast Giants in the opening leg of the Play-Off Semi-Finals, there were empty seats in the Sky Dome for the final home game for Dan Carlson.

Those there saw some early end to end play before the Blaze fans were on their feet when Carlson set up Russ Cowley for the opening goal on 16.03.

Nine minutes later, Jon Weaver let Hoffman and Hemmingway through and Dan Welch tied the game.

In the 26th minute, the Blaze fans gave a superb ovation to their number 26 Dan Carlson in a period which saw the Blaze have six shots to Belfast's seventeen.

Nerves were starting to fray as time in the third period started to expire. Jaeger made two good saves before both sides iced the puck and Jaeger saved again as the game went into sudden death four on four over-time.

Belfast hit the post before the Blaze had a powerplay which saw Weaver fired wide.  Greg Owen missed a great chance, Belfast broke forcing Jaeger to save and the match went to penalty shots.

The Giants named their penalty takers as Mason, C.Hemingway and Welch with the Blaze picking Greg Owen, Luke Fulghum and Greg Chambers.

Mason scored but Owen hit the post and then Luke Fulghum fired wide and Coventry were out of the Play-offs after a 1-1 draw.

Cardiff Devils booked their place in the Play-Offs finals with a 6-3 home win over Hull Stingrays to win 8-4 on aggregate. Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers qualified for the finals in Nottingham last night.
