The former skipper of Oxford will replace Danish rider Morten Risager who is being allowed to look for a new club.
"It's clear that our middle order has been flagging lately," said Bees Boss Colin Pratt.
"That's why we have brought Steve in."
The Bees have a double header against Ipswich this week. On Thursday,they travel to Suffolk before facing Ipswich at Brandon on Friday night.
