Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Club have announced that Luke Fulghum and Greg Owen have signed new two year contracts.

Coventry Blaze Head Coach, Paul Thompson has today confirmed that top
scoring American forward, Luke Fulghum has signed a new, two year contract with
the Elite League Champions, Coventry Blaze.

Thirty year old Fulghum, joined the Blaze at the start of last season
and in seventy games for the club, posted an incredible 60 goals and 44 assists
for a 104 point total.  As well as being Coventry’s top scorer, Fulghum was also the highest goal scorer in the Elite League and was named the Best Forward and the Fans Favourite Player at the League’s end of season awards. His prolific point scoring played a huge part in the Blaze recapturing the Elite League title last season.

Greg Owen has also signed a two year deal. The twenty-eight year old forward joined the Blaze organisation from Briancon in France at the start of last season and played a major part in Coventry recapturing the Elite League title.  He recorded 31 goals and 25 assists for a 56 point total in 60 games for the club and was on course for career best figures were it not for two spells on the sidelines – first through an appendix operation and then a knee injury that saw him miss the play off finals weekend and the World Championships at the end of the season.

Previously, Owen spent three Elite League seasons with Basingstoke Bison after starting his pro career with spells at Milton Keynes and Bracknell.  He has 37 Great Britain caps to his name in World Championship and Olympic Qualification tournaments.

“In my mind, there is absolutely nowhere else that I’d rather play at this point in my career than Coventry,” said Owen to the Blaze website.  “You can’t beat the feeling of winning and having just won the league title, I’m hungry for more silverware.  The great thing about Coventry is that the team will always be challenging for trophies.  The whole club is geared towards that.

“Already I can’t wait to get back to the business of defending that league title.  The Elite League is going to be very competitive again next year which is a great thing for British hockey.  Every game means something and you never get a night off.  That’s great for a player as you look forward to every single game.  And when you are the champions, you know that all the other teams are going to try even more to knock you off the top.

“Thommo’s doing a great job of building the team for next season and that will give us a great chance of ending up as the best team to go with the best supporters in the league.”
