The Coventry City Ladies have ended their search for an Assistant Manager by announcing the promotion of Scott Riddell from his post as Sports Scientist and Coach.
The Rugby native joined the club last summer after spending 18 months with the ladies' male counterparts as an Assistant Sport Scientist at the Sky Blues' Academy.
Manager Paul Cudby greeted the appointment "I'm thrilled that Scott's going to step up into the Assistant Manager's role. I personally think Scott's going to be a big factor in our achievements for the coming season and we can't wait to get started".
Riddell turned down the opportunity to work in the top flight of ladies' football explaining ''I'm delighted at the opportunity to be working with such wonderful players and staff at a club that has the potential and foundations to be at the top level".
The ambitious 25 year old, who currently works as a Senior Sports Development Officer, continued "following on from last season I believe this role will help me to develop and fine tune my managerial skills further and play a more active part in getting the club promoted to where it belongs".
Having previously worked in both Everton's and Liverpool's Academies, Riddell has a fine pedigree backed with a degree in Science and Football from Liverpool John Moores University. "I believe the Club's board, coaching staff and players have the qualities to achieve great things" continued Riddell, "not only this coming season but for many years to come and I'm excited to be a part of it. I'd like to thank and show my appreciation to the board and manager for offering me this opportunity and putting their faith in me".
With pre-season just 4 weeks away Riddell won't have to wait long to get started as he attempts to step into the shoes of his predecessor Matt Whitehouse. The ladies look certain to be one of the favourites to win the Midland Women's Combination League after three straight second place finishes. Whilst Derby County make the step up to the Northern Premier League they'll be replaced by Rotherham United, the team that edged the Sky Blues to promotion 2 seasons ago.
