Mutai Smashes London Marathon Record

Emmanuel Mutai set a lifetime best to win the 2011 Virgin London Marathon today.

A brilliant run saw the Kenyan finish the 26 miles and 385 yards just past Buckingham Palace in a time of 2hrs 4 minutes and 40 seconds.

Fellow Kenyan's Martin Lel and Patrick Makau came in second and third one minute and five seconds back.

Of the early Coventry Godiva Harriers runners to finish, Nigel Marley was the first Coventry based runner home in a time of 2:33:44 for an 82nd place. The second Coventry male home was Scott Hazell who finished in  94th place in a time of 2:34:50.

The first Coventry female home was Godiva Harriers Myshola Kirkham who finished in a time of 3:05:26 in a race won by Mary Keitany of Kenya in 2:19:19..
