Marlon Devonish will miss out on London 2012 Olympics after failing to impress in both the men’s 100m and 200m events of Aviva UK Championships & World Trials during the weekend at Alexander Stadium, Perry Barr, Birmingham, writes Ziad Chaudry.

The 36-year-old Coventry Godiva 2004 Olympic relay gold medallist crashed out in the semi-finals of 100m and finished fourth in 200m final despite recording a season’s best time of 20.78secs.

London 2012 bound Dwain Chambers succeeded in the 100m while James Ellington claimed the 200m title.

Devonish’s clubmate Laura Langowski did not progress beyond the first round of women’s 400m while Rugby AC’s Emma Bailey 200m went out in the same heat to London 2012 qualifier Anyika Onuora, sister of former Gillingham forward Iffy.

Warwickshire will have a London Olympic representative in the athletics competition as Stratford-upon-Avon AC’s Andrew Pozzi overcame Lawrence Clarke and hot favourite Andy Turner to win the men’s 110m event in 13.41.

“I’m on top of the world,” said the delighted 20-year-old. “My preparation in the last week or so has been quite disturbed and I was unsure whether I could come here and achieve what I wanted. To get that done, get that all out the way and come here and win, I’m absolutely chuffed.

“I’m looking forward to the Olympics like you wouldn’t believe. It’s been building for years and years with so much media coverage, you can’t help but buy into the dream so I can’t wait.”
