Warwickshire County Cricket Club have announced that Darren Maddy has stepped down as captain.

Maddy steered The Bears to promotion back to Division One of the County Championship last season, but has decided to step down.

"It has been fantastic but all good things have to come to an end. "Now is an appropriate time to hand over the reins. I know Ian is keen to maintain the team's good progress," said Maddy to the BBC.

He will be replaced by Ian Westwood, who has an average of 36.03 but had a poor season last term with the bat.

Westwood was honoured to be appointed as the captain and said: "It is a great honour and I am thoroughly excited. I had a taste of the captaincy when Darren was injured last year and am delighted to have been asked to take the role on full-time."
