Former Coventry Sphinx Assistant Manager Lee Knibbs has surprisingly resigned after Southam United's 3-2 win at Coventry Copsewood on Saturday afternoon.

Knibbs who was appointed in 2012, gave his notice of resignation to the Saints Chairman Charles Hill  before the game at Allard Way and after he had told his players, Knibbs left after the game finished.

The Southam Chairman told his club's website:  "I spoke to all the players in the dressing room after the match and they were, understandably, sorry to see Lee go."

"They regarded him as a good manager with whom they could have gone on to league success next season."

"The timing of his decision came as a surprise, but we have to move on and focus on next Tuesday's encounter back here at Copsewood. Ian Ray and Simon Walker will take charge of the team"
