Coventry Jets signed off their home schedule with another disappointing loss, 12-14 against a Doncaster Mustangs team who are pushing for a post season play-off spot.

The game couldn’t have started worse with the Jets defence conceding two soft touchdown passes due to broken coverage. Giving up a touchdown in the first quarter and another early in the second quarter, when Doncaster’s quarterback hit his wide receiver who made a catch in double coverage to give the Mustangs a 0-14 lead. In response the Jets offence moved the ball on the ground well through Tony Perkins and San Ryan making good yards, but was unable to punch in when in the Mustangs redzone with a number of important stops made by Mustangs on 4th down. Half time scoreline 0-14

In the second half the Jets opened their account when, quarterback, Frazer Oliver found Chris ‘Teflon’ Hobbs in Doncaster’s endzone, despite very good coverage from a Mustangs cornerback Hobbs snared and held onto the pass taking the score to 6-14. The conversion was not successful which would hurt the Jets later on.

The third quarter was an even affair as both defences stepped things up to not allow the opposition to make yards. It was the Doncaster defence that cracked in the fourth quarter allowing Fraser to hit wide-out Ben Fisher who ran around would be tacklers for a 40 yard touchdown. Again the Jets were not able to make the conversion count and trailed the visitors by two points with one minute left in the game.

Jets opted for an onside kick that was agonisingly close to being recovered by them, but Doncaster was able to make the reception. The Mustangs then took a knee to see the game off.

Head Coach Rick stated “This game was frustrating on many levels as we should have won this game. However, we are still developing as a team with more academy players coming through. So there is no time to feel sorry for ourselves because we need to regroup and recharge”.

Team MVP was awarded to Bless Ango, with Chris ‘Teflon’ Hobs picking up Offensive MVP and Adam Gibson being awarded Defensive MVP. "
