GUS POYET ON COVENTRY SPORTING CONVERSATIONS

In its second season, Coventry Sporting Conversations (CSC) has lined up a treat for sports lovers starting with the witty former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs legend Gustavo Poyet on Thursday, 27th November at 3 pm at James Starley Bldg (JSG 06).

More about Poyet

Gustavo 'Gus' Poyet is a former Uruguay international footballer. He started his professional career in 1988 and has represented big clubs like Real Zaragoza, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs. Poyet won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup with Real Zaragoza in 1995. He then moved to Chelsea in 1997, where he won his second UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1998), the European Super Cup (1998) and the FA Cup in 2000 before moving to Tottenham in 2001.

Poyet moved on to management in 2006 as he became the player and assistant manager at Swindon Town. But soon he left Swindon and joined Leeds United in October 2006 as an assistant manager. He fast became something of a cult hero with his wit and charm with the fans behind the team's bench. In October 2007 Poyet rejoined former side Tottenham Hotspurs as assistant manager helping them win the League Cup. Currently, Poyet is a commentator for Star TV and ESPN Networks for the Spanish League games.
