Warwickshire County Cricket Club have announced that Ashley Giles is to be the new Director Of Cricket at Edgabaston.

With Mark Greatbatch doing the honourable thing and stepping down after the County's double relegation, Giles who retired from playing just over a month ago was given the nod ahead of former Warwickshire skipper Demot Reeve.

Giles, nicknamed the King Of Spin during his playing days for Warwicks and England said:"This is an unexpected but fantastic opportunity for me and I'm honoured to have been approached."

Alan Donald who has been helping England as a bowling coach could be back at Edgbaston to help Giles.

Tim Ambrose scooped the awards at the County's presentation evening. The wicket keeper won the Player's Player, Members' Player and Junior Bears Player Of The Year titles.

Yesterday, current Warwicks skipper Darren Maddy made fifty, took two catches and got a run out but it was not enough to stop England from losing to New Zealand in the Twenty/20 World Cup.
