England Women's Snatch Vital Victory

England women beat New Zealand 2-1 tonight in a Women's World Cup match in Dresden.

The Kiwis took the lead through Gregorious in the 18th minute against Hope Powell's side which had former Coventry City Girls player Karen Carney starting on the bench alongside former City Ladies defender Laura Bassett.

Carney came on at half-time and in the 63rd minute, England levelled through Jill Scott.

With nine minutes to go, England snatched victory and knocked New Zealand out of the competition when Lincoln City's Jess Clarke scored for a 2-1 win to England.

In the other game in the group, Japan beat Mexico 4-0 and are through after beating New Zealand 2-1 earlier in the week.
