Cup Final For Title Chasing City Ladies

Last updated : 27 April 2011 By Kev Monks

For Coventry City Ladies, this certainly is the business end of the season.

Paul Cudby's side go into the Birmingham County Women's FA Cup Final tonight against Aston Villa at Tamworth FC and a week today, have the chance of back to back promotions when they travel to Derby County.

City are second in the Women's Premier League Northern Division table and need a victory at Derby next Wednesday in order to either overtake leaders Aston Villa who have 39 points to Coventry's 38 or fend off third placed Manchester City Ladies who are a point behind the proper Sky Blues and take the second promotion place available for this season only.

Coventry progressed to tonight's final beating Southam United 12-0, Solihull 6-0, Wolves 1-0 and Leafield Athletic 2-0 and know all about Aston Villa who are managed by former CCLFC first team managers Stuart Wilson and Neil Wilson, after playing them recently in a League match which Villa won 1-0 at City's Coventry Sphinx base.

Tonight's game is a re-run of the 2008/09 final when City were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa on April 15th 2009. City's previous final appearance in recent years also saw them beaten in 2005 when they lost 3-1 to Birmingham City,

Kick off at Tamworth FC, The Lamb Ground, Kettleworth, Tamworth, B77 1AA is at 7.30pm.
