Coventry born Cal Crutchlow finished fifth in the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar.
Cruchlow had been pipped for pole position by World Champion Jorge Lorenzo who led from start to finish in the first race of the season.
The now Isle Of Man resident and had been third but went wide with six laps to go and dropped down to fifth.
