Coventry Blaze Win At Cardiff

Coventry Blaze came back to win 3-2 in a Challenge Cup Group B at the Cardiff Devils.  

At the BBT in Cardiff, the home side went ahead through a short-handed Stuart Macrae unassisted goal on 8.46 but on 9.24 and with the Blaze still on the powerplay, Dustin Cameron levelled, assisted by Shea Guthrie and Mike Egener.

Hirsch was the busiest of the two net minders early in the second, saving from Adam Harding and Luke Piggott but there were no more goals until the third period.

On 40.53, Cardiff were back in front when Stuart MacRae assisted by  Tyson Marsh scored another short-handed goal.

The Blaze had a let off when Ben Davies and Max Birbraer combined for another shorthanded 2 on 1 but the puck struck the post.

On 51.46, Coventry were level when NHL loanee Matt Beleskey scored, assisted by James Griffin.

Benn Olson received two minutes for tripping and two for roughing as did James Griffin and  Tyson Marsh, whilst Max Birbraer received a game  penalty for cross checking. 

The Blaze took the lead when Shea Guthrie netted, assisted by Mike Schutte on 52.50.(Goal ) and that was enough to give the Blaze the win.

However, on the hooter there were a number of fights with Olsson taking on Deeds and Egener swinging a punch at a Cardiff official, whilst Dustin Cameron was accused of 'swinging his stick up at a fan.'
