Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Club beat Nottingham Panthers 2-1 tonight in an Elite League match.

Back from their Continental Cup trip to Rouen, the Blaze took on Nottingham Panthers at the Sky Dome tonight.

Face off was delayed for ten minutes but when the game got underway, a full strength Blaze side took the lead on 5.06 thanks to Sean Selsmer finding the net with a short handed goal, assisted by Weaver and Robinson.

This was not a game for the purists and there were plenty of fights as the game became more and more bad-tempered with Brad Cruickshank starting one fight by skating at Kowalski after he had been thrown out of the game. This sparked big fights between Jason Robinson and Lepine and Lee and Penner. Even Blaze net minder Brett Jaeger took an off the puck whack and got stuck in before both teams were sent to the locker room on 27.30 to cool off.

When order was restored, Penner and Lepine got match bans along with Jaeger, whilst Davie Graham got a bench match penalty and Cruickshank got 2 minutes plus two match penalties with Robinson and Lee both getting five minutes for fighting.

That left the Blaze four on three for just under two minutes which was seen out before it was back to five versus five hockey.

On 32.47, Zanon was chucked out after losing it when Blaze's replacement net minder Tom Murdy had been flattened.

Four minutes into the third period, Dan Carlson made it 2-0 to the Blaze when he scored assisted by Jason Robinson.

Murdy made some good saves but could do nothing to stop Nottingham pulling one back on 53.40 when Clarke scored, assisted by Neilson.

But tonight, the Blaze were not to be denied and held on to record a 2-1 victory.

On Sunday night, the Blaze are at Newcastle Vipers.
