Coventry Bees thrashed Belle Vue 65-27 tonight in an Elite League meeting

This was a big meeting for both sides looking to get into the play-offs at Brandon and was watched by a good sized crowd despite the meeting being shown live on TV.

Chris Harris was back for the Bees after his superb performance in the Speedway GP in Croatia and rode at number five with Przemyslaw Pawlicki at number seven.

Filip Sitera who started the season for Coventry, rode for Belle Vue but it was Kazprzak and Lewis Bridger who rode for the Bees in the opening heat. The pole was the leader from the tapes to the tapes and with former Bees rider Hans Anderson pipping Lewis Bridger to second place, it was 4-2 to the Bees.

Pawlicki and Richard Sweetman went in Heat Two. Sweetman, who also rides for Birmingham got off to a flier. With Pawliki beating Sitera, Coventry again won 4-2.

Ben Barker and Ed Kennett took the lead in heat three and a good bit of team riding ensured it was a 5-1 for the Bees fans to celebrate.

That put Coventry 13-5 ahead. The 40 year old Peter Karlson went in Heat Four against Chris Harris who was thrown straight into the air fence along with the two Belle Vue riders Ulrich Ostergaard and Peter Karlson who were forced to withdraw from the meeting.

Karlson had a shoulder injury but Ostergaard looked a lot worse with a suspected leg injury. With both riders out, Sitera came in and finished second to Chris Harris to give the Bees a 4-2 win.

Anderson had a tactical ride in Heat 5 but it was a 5-1 win for The Bees and the same in the next heat.

Chris Harris finished second in Heat Seven for a 3-3. This was only a blip as Coventry win the next two heats with 5-1 maximums.

Patrick Hougaard had a tactical ride in a re-run Heat ten. With Lewis Bridger excluded, Belle Vue took the heat 5-3.

Heat 11 saw a 4-2 win for the Bees and with a 5-1 win in Heat 12, the meeting as a contest was well over.

More 5-1's in Heat 13 & 15 added to the margin of victory which keeps the Bees in the chase for a play-off place if they can win their meetings in hand following last week's postponements.

The Bees are away to Peterborough on Friday.
