Coventry Bees Speedway Team promoter Mick Horton has offered an apology for comments made about the low crowds at the Bees meeting last Friday, the same day as an England Euro 2012 game and with the rain and riders missing also factors that saw one of the lowest crowds in years.

Speaking to the Bees website, Horton said; “I wish to apologise to supporters who may have been upset by my statement from last weekend, and I want to assure them that this was not my intention.

“I do fully understand the reasons why our attendance was so low last Friday, with the England game and the weather and also with the fact that we had riders missing.

“My disappointment after the meeting and over the weekend was an accumulation of several things, including the difficulties with the current regulations and fixtures within the sport.

“When we have riders missing it hurts the club badly. In terms of the league it’s seriously affected our chances of gaining more points than we’ve currently acquired, and clearly it also hurts the crowd figures which ultimately is not good financially.

“Again, I apologise to supporters, a big thanks to those who did come along last Friday and we do look forward to seeing everyone else at future meetings.”
