Coventry Bees Beat The Brummies

Coventry Bees speedway team tonight were involved in their first Elite meeting of the season.

At Brandon tonight, the Bees were able to field their strongest team with Hans Andersen at number one alongside the likes of Richard Sweetman, Ed Kennett and Premyzlaw Pawlicki,

Anderson and Sweetman won the opening heat 4-2 and Pawlicki and Nick Morris did the same in the next heat. Birmingham won heat three 4-2 before Ed Kennett and Pawlicki shot away from the gate in heat four for a 5-1.

Heat five produced a 3-3 but in Heat Six, Andersen and Sweetman got away, Daniel Nermerk hit the back of Sweetman before coming off his bike and head-butting the dirt on the third lap. With the 5-1 standing, Nermerk was ok after treatment but was withdrawn from the rest of the meeting.

That heat saw the Bees 23-13 up and King took a tactical ride for the Brummies who won the heat 5-3.

The Bees gated well to take heats eight and nine 5-1 before Birmingham did the same thing in Heat ten.

Krzysztof Kasprzak, who last year was riding for the Bees took another tactical ride for a 4-4 and with another 4-2 for Birmingham, the Bees led 43-33 at the interval.

That increased by two more points in Heat 13 and in Heat 14, Larsen and Morris rode well for a 5-1. A 4-2 for the Bees in the final heat finished off a good night and a 56-38 victory.

Next Friday, Coventry have an away and home meeting against Peterborough before their next home meeting on Friday May 6th against Wolverhampton.
