Coventry Bears Beaten In Season Opener

Coventry Bears Rugby League suffered a defeat in their National Conference League season opener against Underbank Rangers from Huddersfield.

At Butts Park Arena, Coventry went four points down in the third minute thanks to Alex Chatterton going over for a try. 

Neil Barrett missed the conversion but kicked over the next two tries from Dan Farrand and James Usher to give Rangers a 16-0 lead.

Coventry came back when Liam Wellings went over a try, converted by Steve Coleman.and in the 33rd minute, another try, this time by Tom Davies, who scored from a neat kick from Steve Coleman.

Four minutes later and Dave Pawson broke through the Bears defence to score with Neil Barrett converting and on the stroke of half-time the Bears were 28-10 down when Corey Noel who scored behind the posts after a 40 metre run for a try which Neil Barrett converted. 

Matt Adams went over for Rangers in the 55th minute and with tries from James Usher and Dave Pawson, Coventry were 44-10 down in the 70th minute.

That was the way it stayed and the Bears started the 2014 season with a defeat.
