Coventry Rugby Club ignored the rain to beat Old Albanians 24-10 at the Butts Park Arena in front of a crowd of 1199.
Coventry took the lead in the fifth minute when Hurrell ran in a try before Rayner kicked a penalty for the Hertfordshire based side eight minutes later.
Cliff Hodgson kicked two penalties in the 18th and 23rd to move Coventry's score into double figures, some which the visitors did a minute later thanks to May going over for a try which Rayner converted.
In the 31st minute, Hurrell scored his second try of the game which Hodgson converted to see Coventry 18-10 up at half-time.
The second half was a tight affair but Hodgson kicked two penalties in the 67th and 75th minute to give Coventry a 24-10 victory.
