Cov Rugby Beaten At Bristol

Coventry Rugby were well beaten at Bristol in Championship match tonight.

At the Memorial Stadium, in Bristol tonight, Phil Maynard's team playing in their red and white hooped away kit, trailed 10-3 after 13 minutes with Joe Carlisle scoring a penalty for Coventry.

That became 10-6 in the 18th minute when Carlisle converted a second penalty.

Bristol then scored two tries through Dan Norton and Tom Arscott who completed his hat-trick followed by an Adrian Jarvis conversion to see the home side 22-6 up after 30 minutes of play.

Four minutes later, a tremendous run by Joe Carlisle resulted in a try which was allowed to stand depite punches being thrown by the Bristol number six and the Coventry number three, all caught by thr Sky Sports cameras.

That was converted but Jason Spice ran in a try on the stroke of half-time to see Bristol 27-13 ahead at the break.

With Joe Carlisle replaced at the break, Coventry ran in a try from Joe Merrigan and had Ben Russell convert a penalty before James Phillips scored a try for Bristol in the 53rd minute.

It stayed at 32-21 to Bristol until the 73rd minute when seven more points were added by the home side when Luke Eves dived between the post for a converted try.

Three minutes later, Jack Adams was given plenty of freedom to score another converted try.

Scott Roberts scored a try for Coventry in the last seconds which was converted but Bristol ran out 46-28 winners.

Cov Rugby are at home to London Welsh at the Butts Park Arena next Friday night. Kick off is at 7.45pm
