Cov Jets Look For Third Successive Win

The Coventry Jets recently teamed up with Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust to offer free Chlamydia testing to all of their players aged 15-24.

The screening took place following Saturday’s 48-20 victory over the Shropshire Revolution. “We’re delighted to support the “Got It?” campaign” stated General Manager Adam Biggs “It’s a simple test and worth taking a few seconds out of your day for.”

Lou Brack, Co-ordinator of the programme, is delighted to have the former national champions onboard. She said: “We are in the process of offering free Chlamydia testing to all 15-24 year olds in sporting venues throughout Coventry so having the support of the Jets has been a tremendous help.

Testing is simple with participants just having to fill out a form and provide a urine sample. The aims of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme are; to control Chlamydia through the early detection and treatment of infection, to prevent the development of later medical complications including arthritis in the knee joints and to reduce onward transmission to others.”

“We’re also working to ensure easy access to Chlamydia screening at a wide range of venues and to give client’s a choice of access for both testing and treatment. Our staff have been trained as outreach workers and are used to dealing with concerns or queries that both clients and staff may have. We can contact participants via their preferred method that they can indicate on their form”. Anyone that wishes to take the test will be given free condoms as well as a pair of boxer shorts.

On the field the Jets will be focused on their first ever match up with the Lancashire Wolverines as they look to move to 3-1 and keep their winning streak alive.

Head Coach Paul Rickhuss’ squad is boosted by the return of former GB offensive lineman Adam O’Reilly as they face one of their toughest tests of the season at Coventry Saracens on Sunday at 15:00. The Jets will be without guard Chris Sear and linebacker Daniel Shodipo but will see the return of nose tackle Bless Ango and wide receiver Lewis Phillips. Marcin Wojick will return at cornerback and receivers Sam Knight and Johnny Muanza are set for their long awaited debuts.

The third placed Wolverines will be looking to leap-frog the Jets into second as they attempt to bounce back from a narrow 9-8 defeat away to the Nottingham Caesars last week. That match was seriously affected by the weather and both teams will be hoping that the rain holds off after the Jets last home match was played in monsoon conditions. Head Coach Paul Rickhuss will be expecting his offence to build on the recent good form that has seen them score 14 touchdowns by nine different players in just three matches.
