Copsewood Ladies Through In FA Cup

Copsewood (Coventry) Ladies are through to the Second Round of the women's F.A Cup after a 1-0 victory over East Midland's Premier Division side Nettleham.

Copsewood started the early stages with more of the ball and were playing well inside the visitor's half but were struggling to get in behind the stern Nettleham defence.

On ten minutes, Nicola Foskett had to come off for Copsewood through an injury so a slight change in the home side's approach was needed.

The first real chance of the game fell to the visitors but Nikki Duncan produced a fine save to keep the game at 0-0.

The 25th minute mark was when Copsewood stepped up a level and were now beginning to create chances and it wasn't long before they took the lead as Natalie Dean was played through by Sarah Harvey and she finely placed the ball into the bottom corner.

Copsewood almost doubled their lead before the break but Dean, Melissa Young and Erika Mole all saw their efforts just miss the target.

The second began in identical fashion to how the first ended with Copsewood having more of the play but they just could not fine the illusive second goal even though numerous chances were constantly being created.

The more the game stayed at 1-0 the more hope the visitors had of getting back into it but full credit must go to the Copsewood players as they saw the game out with relative comfort and on another day, would have won by more than the one goal.

Overall manager Ryan Conneely is very pleased with his team today. Having warned his players to not underestimate the visitors he is delighted with the attitude they shown and more importantly he is delighted with the result which see's Copsewood's name being put into the hat for Second Round draw.
