Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Club beat Nottingham Panthers 3-1 in a Challenge Cup Group B tie tonight.

The Blaze iced Matt Beleskey of the Anaheim Ducks, who has been signed on a short term deal due to the NHL lock out and he started the game against the Nottingham Panthers at the Sky Dome.

On 7.40, the Blaze took the lead when Greg Leeb scored an unassisted goal but this was followed by the fights that a Blaze v Panthers game normally brings.

Mike Egner and Guiluame Lepine both got five minutes for fighting on 12.43 and they were joined in the sin bin by Beleskey and Stephen Lee on 15.37 when they both received five minutes for the same offence.

Nottingham drew level on 33.41 when their NHL player Anthony Stewart scored, assisted by Lupine.

But on 48.36, Coventry were back in front when Dustin Cameron scored, assisted by Beleskey and with five seconds to go, a good night was rounded off by a second goal for Greg Leeb, assisted by his brother Brad and Mike Bayrack.
