Coventry Blaze beat Newcastle Vipers 2-0 in an Elite League fixture.

With Luc Chabot in charge whilst coach Paul Thompson is on international duty with Great Britain's Olympic side.

This Olympic Qualification tournament in Poland, which GB have lost both of their first two games, meant that both sides fielded depleted sides. Blaze fielded James Pease in his last ever home game. Pease, who made 631 appearances becomes the club General Manager on Monday.

The first period was goal-less in front of a half-full Sky Dome and after Blaze's Joe Henry and Newcastle's Dean Holland received five minutes in the sin bin for fighting, Adam Calder put the league leaders ahead.

The goal came on a power play and Calder was assisted by Dan Carlson & Corey LeClair, who had a fine game after 33.05.

Newcastle had brought with them about seventy supporters and with five seconds remaining and their net-minder off the ice as the visitors searched for an equaliser,Adam Calder fired into the net for his second goal and a 2-0 win.
